Aaron,
You're with a school system, so you'll appreciate this more. In December of
2003, I walked into the offices of the Baltimore County Public School
Maintenance department. They were replacing an E or F 45 (can't remember)
with a 720 because they were starting to hear a tiny squeal coming from one
of the disk drives. I did a little poking around, and discovered that the
old white box hadn't been rebooted since September of 1993!

In February of 2004, that group was told to prepare itself to switch to a
Windows based system for Maintenance Management. As of today, there is one
module of the new system up and running. Everything else is still running on
the old Elke system (now known as EAM from SSA). As an extra measure of data
protection, that machine FTP's a save file containing their weekly backups
to my machine down here in Texas. :-))

thank you Pete,

another good note... we went from
ibm mvs/cics platform to iSeries for
our y2k solution in 98... new machine..
new OS, new languages, new application
software versions.... and we've continued
to upgrade it every 3 to 4 years..

and we survived due to the constant up
time 24/7 of the iSeries.. and believe me..
we made use of that 24/7 quite often
in the beginning...

also.. in those 10 years... we've came
to work with pc's hacked, server's hacked,
sites down.. but the "i" was always up and
running....

Aaron
