I would certainly Perm apply all the Current PTFs before starting this
process. Then, if I was that far behind, I would just load the Cum CDs,
apply and boot, and then load the Hipers and Database groups to make sure
that I don't get that Link loader error. There might even be a PTF that has
to be applied before loading the cum to resolve that Link Loader issue, but
the cover letter would have those details inside.

There was a discussion last September about a "link loader failure'.
There was
speculation of applying 'too many' PTFs, or enough were not PERM
applied. Does
that have any relevance here?

With a mess that bad, I would just order the most current cume, DB2,
Hipers, and other applicable groups, do 2 good backups, and load all the
most current cume/groups. Trying to sort through all the older stuff is
probably asking for trouble and confusion. The most current groups should
cover the machine pretty well.

Our company just acquired another company and their AS/400. Very few
PTF's have been installed on the server as the company didn't have
anyone to take care of it. Their is a stack of discs that have been
mailed to them over the years (several from '05 and '07-'08).

The '08 set includes 6 discs in shrink wrap listed as OS/400
Cumulative PTFs V5R3M0 SF99530 - C7303530. There are also 3 built to
order discs with the company name on them. These 9 discs came
together in one envelope. Would this set from '08 included
everything that I need to get up to date (to that point) or will I
need to install the older discs first? If this doesn't include
everything, how would I go about ordering 3.5 years of updates?
