I was thinking a hardware appliance VTL , not the VTL emulation on the
iSeries itself. I have no experience with the iSeries VTL. Again that
is why I started with the "Depends".

Your idea of a VTL and mine must be different. We're talking about
virtual tape libraries based off of image catalogs. They do not use ANY
ethernet. And since the media has to be available with image catalogs I
can see how they should work from PWRDWNSYS RESTART(*YES)
IPLSRC(*IMGCLG)
IMGCLG(MYTAPE) but I really fail to see how they would work as an
alternate IPL device.
