You would install 545 if the system had hardware attached that was not supported under 540. The OS is 540 for both versions of LIC. If you are upgrading from 530 then you might as well install 545 LIC instead of 540 and then possibly 545 in the future.

I think that is the essence of my question. Can I?

I'll go ahead and do it. I just want to make sure.

Hi Pete

You can install 545 on a 520 can't you ? That way
if/when you have to
migrate you may have the appropriate LIC already on
the source machine.

Or have I misunderstood ?

I have another i5/OS upgrade to do and unlike the last
time where I
didn't get a Licensed Machine Code base CD
(I_BASE_01), this time I got
two. One is RS 540-F the other is RS 545-C. I am
guessing that the 545
is for a 515/525 machine type but I am not sure. I am
installing the
V5R3M0 to V5R4M0 upgrade on a machine type 9405 - 520
(Processor Feat 7152).

I think I should be using the RS 540-F CD on this
upgrade. Yes?
