SQL can be used in most any modern programming language so there's no problem unless you insist unless your RDBMs allows back door access methods like i5/ISAM (I use that to differentate because the same is not also true of MVS nor VM ISAM and their DB2s), such as READ, CHAIN, etc.

I know it sounds odd because the i5 world has never been oriented to truly relational.
