RE: Setting value of a CL variable

fixed

Thank you. I was able to get this to work by using all alphanumeric
fields.

Timely responses!

What's the format of the value in the LDA: Packed, Zoned, or binary?

For Zoned, I think this would work....

Dcl &myNbrChar *char 5
Dcl &myNbr *Dec (5 0)

RTVDTAARA DTAARA(*LDA (POS LEN)) RTNVAR(&myNbrChar) Chgvar &mynbr
value(&myNbrChar)

If binary, change the last line to
Chgvar &mynbr value(%BIN(&myNbrChar))

Packed is a problem....

Yes - got that, and just hit the numeric thing. I had 3 fields, 2 of
which were alphanumeric, and the numeric one caused
CPF0812 is: RTNVAR parameter type not valid for data area *LDA.

Don,

Crispin has given most if not all you need...

One possible catch, is the value in the LDA character or numeric?

Greetings,

Is it possible to change the value of a CL variable to the value of
certain bytes in the *LDA?

Don
