Paul,

V5r4 doesn't support limiting the ability to read a particular column; although it does support
limiting the ability to update a particular column.

The best way to do this, would be to _NOT_ give the user authority to the table. Instead create a
view without the salary column and give the user access to the view.

This works for any version.

For example, if I give Jane Doe the ability to create a query over the
employee master file, is there a way to let her see everything except the
salary field?

This is a V5R4 system. Does V6 have this feature?
