Thank you for the info. I though so but was not sure. Currently our
FSP and HMC are direct connected with the default private address.
(Which is used elsewhere in our network.) We only have one HMC but two
520's that can be managed by the HMC. Now how to get these all set on
our networks so they are routable across our WAN without breaking
anything. Sound fun.

Yes you can. There's two normal configurations. One involves a
"private"
lan where basically your HMC is hooked up to the FSP on your rack(s) and
nothing else. The other is they are both on the WAN. Sometimes it
takes a few raps to the head of your local CE(s) to get them to accept
the second. And a few CE's are known to carry a cheap router and a few
cables to create a private lan between the HMC and the FSP for when they
are onsite during certain major upgrades.
What we do is keep a HMC, on the WAN, at each site. Therefore we get
redundant HMC's. Each HMC can control all systems.

But can you use the HMC from one site to control the system in a another
site via your WAN?

We are rolling out an MPLS network now to replace a Frame Relay network
(8
sites) and 2 T1's to 2 bigger sites. So far it's been going great :-)
