Thanks for your response. However, we do not have SQL on our machines. I can use QMQRY (prior posts on the alias issue). Could use RUNSQLSTM until last week.

My boss built an SSIS pkg to connect to (hIT driver) and upload to the
400 into a work file that has the same layout as the production file.

I tried the date data type but it wasn't compatible with the date (L) or
date/time stamp field (Z). Got an error when copying from the work file
to the production file. Seemed to populate OK from the upload to the
work file, though.

Create the table on the AS/400 as a date data type and have them
populate the table as a date data type. That way they don't have to do
anything other than making it a date data type on their side. Then use
SQL and my ConvertToiDate function (www.think400.dk/downloads.htm Look
for iDate) to convert to a decimal 8/0 field and write to your
production table.

Insert Into YourProductionFile
Select ConvertToiDate(YourDate,'*CCYMD') << obviously other fields
here
From YourTransferFile

ConvertToiDate is just a user defined function that takes a date data
type and converts it to a decimal value.
