How would I get it in the job then. Right now the command looks like
this(the tape is already initialized because we use t prior and leave it in
place for this job which an additional backup

Let's say your backup CL program looks something like
INZTAP....
SAV ....
Do NOT do the following:
INZTAP ...
SBMJOB CMD(CHGJOB DFTWAIT(2))
SAV ...
Because you'll just modify the default wait time on a completely new job.
And will not have anything to do with the following SAV command.
