Nope. St_mtime (and what's in OpsNav and WRKLNK) shows last changed
date. I'm looking for last-SAVED date. IOW, how do I know _if_ an object
has been saved, and if so, when?

Where are you looking? The information is available in System i/iSeries
Navigator. The stat() Unix-type api returns a structure that includes
it. See st_mtime on this page:
