RE: IBM change name Back to AS/400

Don't hope this is also an April Fool's Story (reported by Bob Cozzi on his site).


IBM announced that its new POWER system will run "OS Blue" a hybrid operating
system based on the best components of CPF/OS/400/i5/OS and Linux. IBM's AIX,
which was considered by most of the industry to be the best version of Unix,
will be discontinued.

The new OS Blue will run on the "Thinkpad" sized systems, bladecenter systems,
and tower/desktop systems. In addition, child OS's such as Windows and Apple's
OS X can be hosted as child processes even on the notebook POWER systems.

The POWER systems introduced today will initially be offered in the following
footprints:

Notebook (2 or 4-way CPU)
BladeCenter S blade (2 or 4-way CPU)
Mini Tower (2 to 32-way CPU)
Rack-mounted (4 to 64-way CPU)

Pricing and availability will be announced shortly but the notebook is said to
start at $1799 for a 2GB single-drive system and go up to as much as
$4000 with two 1TB mirrored drives and 8GB RAM.
