Sorry Mike, when I said: "GUI./ILE development environment for $2600" I was talking about WDS and RDi. That's as compared to Visual Studio Professional for $1200. And I suspect that the next release of System i hardware will probably include an express version with i5/OS and discounted tools for well under $10K, hence my "four figures" comment. Actually, I hope it will be closer to $5K, and I don't think that's unreasonable based on the fact that there already exists an express version of the model 515 for $8K.

At that point, an i5/OS server will indeed be competitive with a comparable Windows server, which today runs about $3000 after OS licensing and tools, and quite a bit more if you get hardware RAID and a quality tape drive. And that doesn't even include the desktop OS and tools licenses.
