I think IBM is an everything company. Their hardware is rocket ship quality
and a market leader.

Yeah, Hardware quality is pretty good. But i still don't understand
why the interior of a x3650 is a lot better than that of a
515/520/525.

On the other hand, the 2.5" SAS Disks in the current System x line is
very finicky. But that's a small downside, compared to the rest.

Just comparing the interior of a x3650 vs a HP DL380 G5 clearly shows
where there was more attention to detail put into - but on the other
hand, it took IBM half a year longer than HP to deliver the current
Core 2 Duo based Xeons, which was a very difficult time to sell System
x servers.

I can't comment much on the Blade space, where i heard IBM to be a lot
better than HP. This video was very impressive to me:

On the Lenovo front, they figure they cant compete with
Supermicro and the other white box server sellers, so why not license their

Well, a line of Budget servers from Lenovo doesn't sound like that bad
of a deal. I'd be willing to try one of them.

the MSFT people are so smart and competitive. But they are just about the
only big fish in the Linux space and have something of value to sell there.

But especially in the Linux / Open Source space, services are the only
thing you can sell...
