I'm no expert on the SAN functionality of the System i, but as far as
i understood it it has severe limitations:

Please correct me if i'm wrong.

* It only supports attachment of IBM servers, while larger SANs (like
EMC) are vendor neutral
* It only supports low speed Gigabit Ethernet / iSCSI attachment, not
fibre channel or 10GE
* It does not support advanced SAN features like Snapshots,
GlobalMirror, etc. pp.
* System i pricing is insane. EMC's pricing is also insane, but i
still think EMC would be cheaper
