Eric -

Check out using the wizard in the iSeries Access file tranfer program - it can create the i5 file on the fly, then populate it.

1) Open 'Data Transfer to iSeries'
2) Click 'Tools' then select 'Create iSeries Database File'

I'll let you figure out the rest...

Tip: if the users put column names in the first row of the spreadsheet, then you can tell the file transfer program to use them as the field names for the database file - just remember the naming rules for fields in DB2/400 files.

Subject: upload Excel worksheets to i5 with Excel Add-In (iSeries Transfer)

What steps do you follow to upload Excel worksheet data to an i5 DB2
file (or to a file that subsequently can be CPYF with *MAP *DROP to the
DB2 table).

I am thinking of Excel Add-in with iSeries transfer. It will be at
least a year before we upgrade to Oracle's JDE Worldsoftware release
A9.1 that has excellent PC upload/download functionality to all database
files.

I, with my programming skills and command line access, can do uploads
for my users, but I want to make it so that a user can transfer their
Excel worksheets up without assistance from I.T. department.
