Technically, you're right, but from all the questions and the nature of
those questions I see on this forum plus talks I had with my AS/400
colleagues when with IBM, it seems to be a fairly new concept to most
folks on the AS/400/i5 community. I wish the AS/400/iSeries/i5 community
had embraced it, way back, as much as the folks on the other IBM
platforms, but it doesn't seem to be the case. But, I'm hoping they
catch up to the rest of the RDBMS world... soon.


I remember doing some stuff with SQL in the early '90s. However few of the
places I worked until recently had SQL. I think a lot of it was the old
CFO/Controller wouldn't spend money for extra software if he couldn't see
an immediate payback. Since SQL had a reputation as expensive and a drag
on performance, it wasn't adapted by many small shops. With the
performance increases in these machines, and the more computer experienced
managers, both of those restrictions have faded away.
