Yet another reason not to implement "freeware" into your production
environment. People complain about having to pay support fees, but
here
is a situation where it will really pay off. Vendors everywhere are
scrambling now to get ready for the requirements of V6 and all those
support payments are going to pay off with a seamless transfer of
software
when the time comes. WRKDBF may be a great tool, but without any
support
where does that leave you?

I agree somewhat, Rich, but utility software is a different animal. You can
certainly buy a tool like DBU for about two grand, or you can use WRKDBF for
free. Personally, I prefer WRKDBF to most utilities out there, because Bill
did a great job with the package.

If you still want to save money and if you're not working with multi-member
files and such, you can probably get away with an SQL client like Squirrel.
Point it at your System i and you ought to be able do a lot of what you
need.
