Tommy,

Your "ones with the checkbooks" are the ones who you see every day. Those
are the ones who NEED to know about how amazing the NEW i5/OS and System i
servers are, so they will retain this platform. Calling it an AS/400 does
not help that cause.

Then there are all the OTHER checkbook holders - the larger IT population.
These are the ones who think AS/400 is an old platform, and not worthy of
their world. If there was noise about this "new" System i and its amazing OS
outside of midrange-L and outside of the constituency, then we may have a
chance to get some more constituents.

We complain about IBM's lack of marketing, so we know that if we want the
platform to continue, WE are the ones who must do the work. Calling it
anything but a new name will not convince any checkbook holders to write the
check. It is our responsibility to let the world know what we have - not
what we HAD.

Trevor

sounds like a movie quote "come to the dark side Luke"....

as others besides myself have pointed out...it's a visibility issue. even
if we do USE the new name (du jour) the ones with the check books are the
one we have to get buy-in from. I'm just gonna leave it at that.

Have a Happy New Year....

Thanks,
