Subject: Re: 3581 L23 tape drive "how to" question

Many shops configure that device for "sequential" mode versus "random"
mode - we did. Random is the default and is used by shops that use TSM,
BRMS and other tape management stuff.

Anyway, in sequential mode:
- Slap tapes in
- Press Mode until you see "Start Seq"
- Press Select

Test:
- CHKTAP DEV(TAPxx) ENDOPT(*UNLOAD) should display volid, eject tape,
load next tape automatically
- CHKTAP DEV(TAPxx) ENDOPT(*UNLOAD) should display volid eject tape

Passes test? Repeat first group to load the tapes back up.
If your backup does not end with an *UNLOAD, connect in and do a quick
CHKTAP between backups. You can see which volume is loaded by doing the
CHKTAP ENDOPT(*LEAVE) or *REWIND instead of *UNLOAD.
