I don't know what profile you are signed under, but make sure you have the
authority. Are you signed on as HSCROOT?

As an aside, do you understand the difference between backing up Critical
Console Data and Upgrade Data? I can't even imagine that you could get CCD
on a USB device.

Click on Management Environment -> yourhmcname -> Licensed Internal Code
Maintenance -> HMC Code Update and look in the right-hand pane for "Format
Removable Media"

I'm attempting to upgrade our HMC from V5.2 to V6.0 and I'm stuck on the
install instructions where you either back up to DVD RAM or USB flash
drive.
I'm using info center instructions titled "Upgrading the machine code on
an
HMC" and I'm on step 4, "Back up critical console information or HMC
Data".

This says to Select "Format Removable Media" after inserting the media in
the drive. From where am I supposed to select it? There's nothing
popping
up and it's not a menu option on the HMC.

Now if I chose to forget DVD-R and backup to a USB drive, the instructions
say to select Service Management in the Navigation Pane and then choose
Format... Well, my HMC has no Service Management option. It does have a
Server Management option, but there are no Format options within it.

What am I missing here?
