One reason we don't see a lot of DBA's on the System i is that most
installations don't use the database as a database, they use it as a
series of ISAM files. That greatly reduces the level of complexity.
Plus, the System i is self-tuning - it gathers its own statistics and
adjusts as needed. I also support UDB on Windows, and while you can do
some pretty cool stuff with it, you have to do it yourself. I've
always likened the System i to a boom box, and contrasted it to a
component stereo. You get pretty good sound from a boom box, but I
can't do impedance matching like I could with a component stereo.

This sounds like a Sarbanes-Oxley requirement. Our parent company has
to comply with SOX. Their developers/analysts aren't allowed direct
access to live data. Perhaps that's what your auditors really want.
