Pete,

I never said I didn't like QU2! But there are things _about_ it I don't
like, like the handling of Q/400 queries. Initially I didn't like the
metadata idea, but at the present it's growing on me. For example, you can
create "virtual columns" that derive their value from other columns. If QU2
looked only at the actual database and there was no such thing as metadata,
would that be possible? What about when I add columns to the table - how do
I update the metadata to add those new columns without losing virtual
columns? If I add a number of virtual columns to a table and want to add
the same virtual columns to another table that happens to have the same
based on fields, why do I have to enter them from scratch? Why can't I copy
them in some way? Why does a virtual column have to be attached to a
specific table anyway? How about defining it globally somehow? How about
the equivalent of an SQL function to define these virtual columns?

QU2 is so far above and beyond QU1 that I consider it a different product.
When the redbook is over 400 pages of tutorials and only touches some of the
features in the product, that says something. You should see the volume and
size of PDFs available at the IBI site. It has crossed my mind that when I
fully understand this product, I mat never have to write another RPG report
program.

It's still so early in the learning curve I don't want to make judgements
too soon. And I'm not doing my whining here, I'm doing it with IBM PMRs (3
so far, but I asked at least 8 questions on the first PMR) and 1 DCR. The
biggest problem now is finding knowledgeable experts to whom I can ask the
questions.
