I use DSPFFD all the time.
It is one way of getting at a file layout, and some back track data.
There's a bit of a clutter there if you only interested in certain things ... alternatives including what we get when compile a program with the file, QRY/400 view.

I typically just key in DSPFFD then the name of the file.

It is possible that someone at some site made a copy of the IBM command to their own version.

Hi Folks,
I have a programmer who is asking me about the following command
(DSPFFD2). I have not heard about it, but he is apparently reading about it
online. Anyone know what it is?

Display File Field Description (DSPFFD2)

Type choices, press Enter.

File . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Name
Library . . . . . . . . . . . *LIBL Name, *LIBL, *CURLIB
Record format . . . . . . . . . *FIRST Name, *FIRST

Additional Parameters

System . . . . . . . . . . . . . *LCL *LCL, *RMT, *FILETYPE

Thanks, Larry
