This is ugly.

We have an application that needs to print various forms onto plain paper.
Another computer system (HP) also prints onto plain paper. Somebody got the
idea to implement this by inserting a custom DIMM into the printer.

The various forms are currently selected by directing the form data to a
specific output queue. The output queue has a customization object attached
that send code to the printer (Lexmark Optra if anybody cares) to cause the
correct form to be selected.

The printers are attached as either remote output queues or as devices. For
each different form to be sent, a separate output queue is used with a
different customization object.

My questions:

1) Could the customization code be imbedded into the RPG program?
2) How?

Years ago, I read about sending some character followed by a two byte count that
allowed a stream to be sent in transparent mode. Been way too long to remember
any details.

Thanks.
