I went the LAN console way. It definitely came preconfigured with an IP,
but not the one in the install documentation :-) I ended up having to use
nmap (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nmap) to find which IP address it was
listening on. The install process after that was relatively painless with
LAN Console (I knew NOTHING when I started).

Also, I switched PC's and somehow lost the password to connect with the
"Console" application. As I understand it this means I need to go through a
yucky IPL process and somehow reset the Console password. BTW, if anybody
has easy instructions for this they would be very welcome as I need to do it
before I can do a full system save.

Okay, here's the $64,000 question: how do you configure the IP address for
the built-in port? Does it come initially configured (I would assume with a
non-routable address) and can you then change it relatively painlessly?
