Are you sure that drive #6 is actually running?
Are you sure that slot #6 is actually wired to the controller?
Are drives recognized only if AUTOCFG is on? And is it? (although
I'd hope this is at a lower level than the OS)

The drive did light up occasionally. I don't know what that means. I have
no idea whether the drive is actually wired up, but I did get a hardware
error last night that seems to point to disk drive problems, so it may be
that the drive is bad. It's odd coincidence that the bad drive just happens
to be in the slot that never had a drive, though.
