I agree VE is not perfect, but it helps. If more people were using it and
opening PMRs & DCRs I'd hope it would get even better. In my opinion, it is
better than what other db platforms offer.

i've used visual explain some but have a few things that make me wonder
about it's actual effectiveness. if i run VE and create the recommended
index/view whatever then run it again it tells me that it still uses the
same access path (or rebuilds that access path) again. seems something
just ain't right there...
