I'm trying to get a character representation of the current date in sql.
I
can get the date in ISO format, but it has the '-' in it. What is the
easiest way to get the current date in YYYYMMDD format?

I know that I can do something like:

substr(char(curdate(), iso),1,4) concat substr(char(curdate(), iso),6,2)

concat substr(char(curdate(), iso),9,2)

There must be a simpler way?! Isn't there?

Download my UDF iDate at www.think400.dk/downloads.htm.

In addition to the iDate function, I have included the function
ConvertToiDate. The function will take an SQL date data type and
converts it to an integer which can then be converted to char.

Select Char(ConvertToiDate(CurDate())) As TodayChar From
SYSIBM/SYSDUMMY1

Returns assuming your default date is *CYMD. The default in the package
is *CCYMD.

TODAYCHAR
1070905

Select Char(ConvertToiDate(CurDate(),'*MDY')) As TodayChar From
SYSIBM/SYSDUMMY1

Returns

TODAYCHAR
90507

ConvertToiDate supports all the same date formats as iDate does.
