So let's say the base OS on the 5xx had V6R1, can he then load V5R4 and
V5R3 into partitions ?

Would IBM supply licensable versions of V5R3, V5R4 that would not time
out in a config such as this.

I think Aaron is headed down the road of having a box that could support
all 3 releases and be able to compile back to V5R1 just in case.

subject: RE: Versions of OS on LPARs - Any limitations?

My quick answer is no.

First off, it always depends on the min that the actual machine could
run/support. This couldn't be a 5xx box, as that requires a min of
V5R3. I
think if you got rid of LPAR3 you would be able to support it. Some
boxes
ran N plus or minus 1, and some did N plus or minus 2 at the most.

Subject: Versions of OS on LPARs - Any limitations?

Hi all,

I have a question regarding LPARs and different i5OS versions
co-existing.
Could I have the following without any troubles?

LPAR1=V5R4
LPAR2=V5R3
LPAR3=V5R1
LPAR4=V6R1

I am assuming this would all be controlled from the HMC and could be
shipped
from IBM like this based on me specifying it.

TIA,
