We have the cleaning tape in the 3580 LTO-2 drive. It sits in the back
slot waiting for the drive to clean itself. We usually have to have the
loader cleaned or replaced once a year, the drive last until the loader
pulls a tape half way out and moves. Ouch!

I remember reading in an LTO2 drive manual that the drive should be
cleaned every 2-4 hours of runtime.
LTO cleaning tapes are abrasive - they slowly destroy the tape drive. We
use them once every week.
