<<< . Fridges make the room they are in warmer.

As a kid it always seemed strange to me that the dinky little flame (not
much bigger than a pilot flame) of a propane powered fridge in our summer
camp would keep things cold.

I never understood how those portable units could help.....

Most of the ones I've seen have a flexible duct (think dryer vent)
coming out of the back that you can then use to send the hot air
somewhere else.

And here's me thinking all this time that since fridges and ovens
both work on electricity but one keeps things cold and the other
keeps things hot and since electricity has a positive and negative
that the one that keeps them cold must be using the negative part;
and the one that keeps them hot uses the positive part - hence air
conditioner units (fixed or portable) use the negative part to keep
the room cool.

Acknowledgment to a early edition of Viz (if you're in or from the
UK you probably know or have heard about Viz) that had the
fridges/ovens negative/positive response to a readers question.
