Along these lines, a single new "Annual" file might make sense, with all the needed fields rolled up into a 12-element array with a key of Year & Account, with a logical of Account & Year. This becomes easily maintained, and allows power users to write a lot of queries they'd find desirable.

This allows annual comparisons, rolling quarters, seasonal analysis, and trending analysis and simple drill downs.
Disk memory is relatively cheap today; its an answer that might make you a hero in some quarters. :)

Assuming that you are trying to group quarterly data together, you could use the OPNQRYF command to select from all members by months 1 to 3, 4 to 6, etc.

Another thought, depending on the number of records involved, is to simply copy the desired members into a single physical file in QTEMP.
