And if you use it, you're stuck with SQL as the only way to get at it. Even if you can jigger the native I/O to open and read records with LOB fields, and even if you manage to make it write those records, you are (so far as I'm aware) SOL as far as actually seeing the contents of a LOB through native I/O.

Of course, if you're never going to do native I/O on the file, then that's of no consequence.
