But of course if the user has enough authority on his PC he could always change the ODBC connection
back to read/write.

Just an FYI

There is a tab on the ODBC configuration panel that allows
you to set up on the local ODBC connection as read only. If
the ODBC connection type is set as a "File DSN" in the ODBC
manager, or you are configuring your own based on keywords in
the ODBC DSN file, the keyword CONNTYPE=2 will set read only.
You can modify the DSN though the ODBC control panel icon, or
directly in the DSN which should be located at C:\Program
Files\Common Files\ODBC\Data Sources.

Subject: ODBC Access

I should have been more specific with my question...

A user, JoeUser, using Access/Excel,etc from his desktop,
wants to access a file on the iSeries called "Financials" to
do some analysis.

How can I limit his ODBC connection to be "Read" only so he
has no ability to modify the file?

Thanks,

Matt
