We used Operations Console back when we had 8xx boxes. And despite all
the horror stories I've heard about it, we did not have any significant
issues. We even upgraded the OS of not only the i5, but migrated the
windows from one version to the next. I am not talking about service
packs - I am talking about like a 98 to 2000 or NT or some such thing, but
it's been so long I can't remember.
Maybe by the time we got around to it, most of that had been ironed out.

We only used it for one lpar, and that was the controlling lpar that was
pretty much dedicated to that task. So "console time" was limited to
pretty much every 8 weeks. Maybe we didn't push it like others. We also
never hooked up remotely to that, but it was discussed.

When HMC first came out it was garbage, but now it's pretty steady. Even
though I did get a security alert about it today from IBM recommending a
certain fix level of HMC code.
