You can abort the backup with the aid of the attention key.
Then you deal with whatever the error messages are, then
change conditions of backup, such as restricted mode and
whether the message is notify or break. You will need to
reinitialize backup tape before restarting.

1 .system is in restricted state
2. FSS started and between we got the message
3. we have the dumb terminal
4. I tried all the key's in the keyboard(shift + Esc, Esc,
Ctrl ....) but its not reflecting the console.

is that only way to power off the server?

Wrong. You can do a SysReq-6. However changing QSYSOPR to
break AND
PICKING A SEVERITY is not a bad idea. Failure to pick a
high enough
severity may result in backups being hung up by crud like a
comm line
reporting a failure to connect. Like you give a rip when
you have the
system in a restricted state.

Bob,
If you are doing a FSS from, you most likely have ended the
system to a
restricted state.
In this mode, the system request function will not work, nor
can you start
another session at another workstation.
What you need to do is to set QSYSOPR to *BREAK mode
(severity 60) before
you end your subsystems.

Hope this helps,

Bob,
Are you saving to tape?

(if your saving to SAVF, do you have enough disk?)

Is your terminal stuck in "play mode"?
(what symbols does your bottom row have on it?)

Hi Bob,

Can you get another screen to answer the msg on? Is your
screen a dumb
terminal or a PC? If a PC you can start another client access
session...and
if a dumb terminal you may be able to get a totally separate
session by
pressing some Alt/Esc type combination, sorry it's such a
long time now
I
don't remember what!

cheers,

Clare
