Can you clarify what you mean by "fully thread safe"? ... able to run
the same RPG procedures ... in two threads at the same time, *without*
having to serialize access?

That is _my_ understanding of what both George and Barbara have said in
public presentations - yes. But as is the norm with IBM nothing is cast in
stone until announce and that is a way off yet.

If so, you'd be able to use the pthread APIs, or ... even if the
language doesn't have it's own thread operations, right?

That is my assumption yes.

If an RPG subproc can be called safely from a multi-threaded Java app and
needs to use files, then that also fits with some of the things that have
been said about files in subprocs, passing files as parms, etc. Once you've
opened those gates then multi-threaded RPG code becomes a reality. Still
not sure what I'd do with it - I'm mostly looking forward to the benefits it
adds to file handling etc.
