Isn't Dell selling machines with Linux? I'd think that qualifies as selling without Vista...

Yes - but not through the web site - or so the sales rep told me - this was
in Europe when buying a machine for my aunt, but he indicated it was true
world wide. They have a deal with MS that allows them to sell machines with
XP Pro instead of Vista - but not "openly" via the web site other than a few
recon machines.
They will preload XP _and_ you get a full license CD copy ( a rarity these
days). You do have to pay pretty much full price for XP - it is not just a
swap - but it is worth it to avoid Vista particularly on a low end Vista
machine that would be crawling after a few of MS' wonderful service packs!
Just as my current machine is.
