There must be a misunderstanding:

Yes indeed! First, let me say that I am not arguing -- your reply was incredibly helpful in understanding the situation, and I thank you very much!

Instead of using a DDS described logical file, you have to specify the
physical table or a SQL view

3. Even when specifying the physical file the SQL statement may be rerouted to the CQE because of the existence of logical files with
Select/Omit-Clauses

This was my situation. I originally ran my SELECT specifying only the PF, but the optimiser apparently preferred one of the DDS logicals. I verified that this was the case when I copied the PF to a temporary library and ran the SELECT over that (there were no LFs over it there) and the query ran.

Page 160 of the V5R4 SQL Reference does not mention LF with select/omit as the restriction.

I did verify that your explanation is more accurate. I chose a PF having no LF with S/O and it works as expected.

In the QAQQINI-File is an option IGNORE_DERIVED_INDEX that is set to *NO by
default.

Thank you as always for your help Birgitta! I need to go spend some time in the DB2 manual and look at all the options in QAQQINI.
Tschuess!
