I was told by my IBM contact who helped me purchase my 520 that two mirrored
drives will operate faster than a RAID scenario. I don't know any better
than he so I believe what he says.... should I?

Subject: 515 Configuration Funny

So, I am configuring a new 515 Express. I select the defaults, and
configure. It adds the mirroring feature and 2 x 70GB drives.

I review the messages, and I am told:
"You have chosen a disk configuration that may impact system performance."

Ha! that is the DEFAULT configuration that IBM provided!!!

I read further:
"Please review the number of disk arms in this configuration to ensure it
will meet the customer's requirements and provide acceptable performance."

I guess this is another case of one arm forgetting to tell the other...
