If you still use Folders (/QDLS) or SNADS (eee Gads) then you'll still need the directory entry but not the SMTP entry.

Of course you should NOT be using folders and if you are you should kick that habit. There are many reasons NOT to use them and only one (bad) reason to continue to use them. If I utter that reason Rear Admiral Grace Hopper will appear and beat me about the head and shoulders (again!).

We currently create a directory entry (WRKDIRE) and an SMTP name entry
(WRKNAMSMTP) for all of our users. We started doing this because the
SNDDST command was the only way to send an e-mail and these two tables
needed an entry to route that Distribution to the correct external
e-mail account. We have now converted all our e-mail sending
applications to use the java mail API and no longer use SNDDST.

Is anyone aware of any reason why we could not stop creating the
Directory entry and SMTP name entry?

Thanks
