Hi Rob,
If you must use a UUID as an IFS filename, please convert it to hex or base64. Don't try using the binary values as a filename, it'll come back to bite you, no matter what you start the filename with!
Like Roger, I wonder why you don't just use tmpnam()? Is there some reason UUID must be used?

Would prefixing them be "a good idea"? Like prefix them with "UUID" so that I can do a RMVLNK '/tmp/UUID*.txt'?
