I was wondering if you can extend the length of a program at the OS

Roger, have you considered letting Sonicwall do AV in addition to your
desktop AV? Let the Sonicwall AV engine catch most things. If it
gets
past that then the desktop AV can catch it. That way if one AV engine
isn't current enough to catch something hopefully the other will be.
Desktop AV still has responsibility for things that don't originate
from
email, of course. If it's a good design then scanning for AV won't
add
that much overhead to the Sonicwall; it should be able to do a single
pass over each incoming message to check for spam, phish, and virus.

We security people love layered defenses. :)

Sonicwall Email Security appliance in front of Domino on System i for
anti-spam/anti-phishing. It can also do Anti-Virus and policies but we
do the AV at the desktop because of all the other ways it can crawl
in.
It filters out about 85-90% of the email with very rare false
assignments.

<Vendor warning, I sell AVG>
AVG Network Edition for Anti-Virus and firewall on the XP/Linux PCs.
Only has to be renewed every two years.

Hi

What Anti-Virus Anti-Spam products do you use and would you
recommend
it?

I am currently trialing MessageLabs which filter the mail out before
it hits our network saving bandwidth.
