"Ideally you would upgrade to V5R4. Just do it."

CAREFUL with "Just do it". BEFORE you upgrade to V5R4 PLEASE do your
homework. There where considerable changes with V5R4 that affected some
third party product. One of those objs was an IBM splf utility. Most
vendors - like my company - already released PTFs that allow the affected
software to run in V5R4.

Ideally you would upgrade to V5R4. Just do it. And if the save file is
full of code samples, it "may" have V5R4 only code.

If it is source code only you may be able to open the save file as a
regular file and access it this way. This used to be an old hack that
some people used to undelete deleted records. Once you get into it put
the data into a source physical file of your choice.

Subject
Restoring a SAVF from a newer release

I downloaded a savefile from pertaining to a Redbook from IBM's site. I
can't restore it, the message I'm getting states it was creates from a
different OS version. We are on V5R3, I suspect IBM used a newer version
to create the savefile. Is there a way I can get around this? Thanks,
Tim
