Greetings:

In the Appendix of Midrange Computing's book on API's, I stumbled on the
section "Transferring the Source Code" (quoted below). Does anyone besides
me see the irony of the instructions in point 4? In other words, "If you
know what to do, do that now." Otherwise you are in a virtual infinite
loop. How very IBM-documentation-ish of the author.

BTW, I *do* know how to do it ...

----------------------------
TRANSFERRING THE SOURCE CODE
The CD-ROM includes source code for the sample programs and code snippets
listed in Table A.1. You will need a PC and IBM?s Client Access or some
other file-transfer utility software to transfer the source to your
AS/400. In addition, your system will need the RPG compiler. Your system
will also need to be on Version 4, Release 4 of the IBM Operating System,
OS/400.

To transfer the source, follow these steps:

1. Sign on to the AS/400 with a user profile that has the authority level
of QPGMR or above.

2. If you want, create a library to contain the software on the CD-ROM.
For example, you could call it APIBOOK for ease of identification:
CRTLIB LIB(APIBOOK)

3. Create a source physical file called SOURCE in the library just
created:
CRTSRCPF APIBOOK/SOURCE RCDLEN(112) TEXT(?API Book Source Code?)

4. Transfer all of the source code on the CD-ROM to the source file you
just created. Table A.1 lets you match the figures in the book to the
source code.
