Unload/reload does the nice disk spreadout. Which, back in the day, made a huge difference. However with STRASPBAL, is it still applicable?

SAVSTG/RSTSTG _can_ be a nice option when you have a system that you want to return to a previous configuration/condition. I used it during Y2K testing to reset everything back to the current date after jumping forward.

It does have its procedure that must be followed, so it's not a simple "Run SAVSTG; then run RSTSTG when you're done." (In fact, there is no 'RSTSTG'.) But it's pretty easy nowadays.

Now, in terms of disk spreading, I'm not sure it's especially relevant when the whole disk array is being doubled in size per unit. I mean, at the worst, you'd end up with _some_ drives right near 50% full, and other drives would very likely be somewhere above 40%. I.e., a weird form of balancing will happen automatically.

True, some objects might be "condensed" on one drive or another when the objects could be better scattered. However, I'd expect ongoing performance monitoring _including_ analysis should catch such objects if anything was significant.

Make sense?
