I did one of these several years ago (V5r2) and no, there was nothing
special I needed to do on the front panel. Once you get the cables together
correctly it just worked.

Subject: 9406 170 7101/7102 System Expansion Unit

Hi everyone and Happy Christmas.

I am installing a 7102 System Expansion Unit on a 170 at V5R3 this weekend
and was wondering if anyone knew of any special codes that I will need to
input on the front panel in order to make it work. I know that if you
install a 7114/7116 you have to enter the codes to let the iSeries know it's
there, but I cant rememeber if its the same on the older models?

Kind Regards

Martin.
