Hi Rob

I noticed when we tested this that some of the resource names changed, but I'm going to re-read the manual again to see is this was something we did or something we have to live with.

So, in summary, it seems that SAVSTG is usable. I've even heard of a
large multi shop, (one of those that purchase iSeries by the thousands),
that uses SAVSTG to initialize all their new systems for deployment.

Unload/reload does the nice disk spreadout. Which, back in the day, made
a huge difference. However with STRASPBAL, is it still applicable?

SAVSTG keeps the spool files. Unload/reload, prior to V5R4 and changing
the defaults, does not.

Read chapter 13 of this manual closely. Sounds like regardless of 21 or
savstg you may have to configure disk protection manually.

Not sure what the restore does to your System Resource Manager or SRM. One
of those things that IBM cautions you mightily about when restoring to a
different system. But since you are using the same system it probably
doesn't matter. In Chapter 13 there is some consideration given to this.
