In the Hardware Information Center, there is a fairly detailed
write-up on "replacing a disk drive" and all that is required.

http://publib.boulder.ibm.com/infocenter/eserver/v1r3s/index.jsp

If you plan to replace them all, a load/unload will be the simple
way to go.

If you feel "VERY" comfortable working in the service screens,
you can do a "gig-mig" which is the customer engineer method
of replacing a drive. You must feel very confident while in
SST options to do this.

The load/unload remains the best way.
